SMS Training Sessions
The CCED/NMA Supervisory Management Skills Training Program is a ten course series conducted in three sessions. The program is equivalent to a ten unit CEU accredited program in foundational management, communication, and leadership skills.

CCED/NMA SMS Training Program Course Description
Communication Skills
Equipping people with communication skills and concepts that will make them more effective as leaders, supervisors, and managers are essential for success in management. This course deals with basic communication concepts demonstrated useful for leaders and managers of all levels. It will include developing oral communication and writing skills.
Interpersonal Relationship Skills
Interpersonal relationship skills and concepts make effective managers. The emphasis of this course is on learning the fundamentals and techniques of relating to others, presenting up-to-date concepts that help managers develop themselves and become more effective in working with people.
Coaching and Counseling
This course emphasizes the manager’s helping role in the development of skillful employees. It will explain and provide the necessary tools to help managers in employee coaching and managing. It also teaches the manager nonjudgmental listening skills and not to provide feedback.
Introduction to Supervision
Supervising is a vital part of managing any organization. This course will explore the context and basic knowledge factors that determine supervisory performance. We will examine the supervisor’s role, including income, status, and psychological rewards. It will also examine the characteristics of effective supervisors.
Management Principles
Because of changing technology and management philosophy in organizations, the demand for supervisory leaders has increased dramatically. This course will build a foundation of management concepts that will prepare the participant for further studies, and help each student develop a positive and constructive philosophy of management and present practical ideas and tools for managers.
Business Concepts
This course covers basic business concepts, understanding the nature of business and how information effectively flows through the organization. It also discusses how the economic system impacts an individual business.
Law and Ethics
This course is designed to provide those in supervision with a background of law that is pertinent to their business context. Emphasis is on understanding the law’s impact on the supervisor instead of the learning of specific legal terminology.
Developing Employee Performance
Developing and maintaining excellence in performance are basic keys to individual and leadership success. This course addresses contemporary approaches and concepts, such as re-engineering, empowerment, and a useful system for managing performance.
Challenge of a New Employee
This course is focused on the concept that working effectively with the new employee reaps substantial returns in performance, loyalty, and cooperation to the organization. By introducing the new employee to the job in a skillful, helpful way, managers can multiply their influence on future employee behavior.
Leadership Development
This course is designed to develop awareness and understanding of a leader’s role. It also covers improvement of leadership skills, establish leadership ideals and develop qualities needed to achieve them, understand leadership styles and increases a person’s capability to respond accordingly and develop strategies for effective leaders.
